My name is Quill, and welcome to the blog! This blog is all about my journey learning about costuming, while also talking about disability, and dyslexia!
A little about me then:
I am currently a student at UAL: Wimbledon, specalising in Costume Interpretation. I am also a fan of drawing and designing, however I get the most enjoyment at being able to realise either my own, or others designs into a real, wearable piece!
I also have a couple of disabilities, just to you know, keep things nice and challenging! I have long term anxiety and depression, which is fortunately doing much better with treatment, and Ehler Danlos Syndrome… Or so the doctors think. They’re definitely sure of Hypermobility, which is kind of the same thing, but also not. Yeah it gets confusing for me too, and the doctors are still trying to work out that one. The main take away from this bit of information is that I am in pain. Like, all the time. Some days it might be a *little* better, and I can do an okay day, and then other times it is too painful to do anything, but lie in bed and feel sorry for myself.
And then last but not least, dyslexia! I actually had no idea on that diagnoses, until it got suggested to me to apply for the university funded dyslexia screenings. There are a few different types of dyslexia, which I never even knew about! The way dyslexia affects me, is delightful memory/recall issues, bad grammar (hey I can’t remember the things that inform good grammar! I’m sorry!) math skills are… a little flakey, but serviceable, but the most noticeable is differentiating between left and right. Please never ask me for directions. Anywhere. Ever. And if for some reason you do, just do the opposite of what I say, that’ll probably be for the best!
